Bring the Hope of the Gospel to Inmates

2 Min Read

Around the world, more than ten million people are serving time behind bars. And they’re often searching for truth, meaning, and purpose in their lives.

Frequently, however, these prisoners are led astray by the false gospels that run freely behind prison walls. And this problem is compounded by a scarcity of biblically and theologically sound resources within correctional facilities. Just like you and me, they need the life-transforming power of God’s Word—and you can help.

Every month, Ligonier Ministries receives more than 500 letters from inmates in correctional facilities. Our Prison Outreach exists to help these men and women rebuild their lives on the truth of God’s Word through the generous support of ministry friends like you. You’re helping to supply them with discipleship resources such as the Reformation Study Bible, Tabletalk magazine, and books by Dr. R.C. Sproul.

Recently, we celebrated the first graduates from our Ligonier Inside program at a correctional facility in Alabama. Over the past year, 14 inmates have studied with Ligonier’s teaching series to lay a biblical foundation for the future.

The program seeks to raise up leaders within the prison system, and, by God’s grace, several of this year’s graduates are going on to pursue a seminary education. Will you join us in praying for them and the 25 additional students now enrolled in the program?

Ligonier is also pursuing an unprecedented opportunity to reach hundreds of thousands of inmates with the hope of the gospel through Edovo, a tablet-based program offering educational and rehabilitative content to incarcerated individuals.

Many of Ligonier’s trusted discipleship resources have been added to this platform. This extends the reach of Ligonier’s teaching series to over 800,000 learners in more than 1,000 prison facilities across 43 U.S. states. The platform plans to expand to 1,200 facilities and one million learners by the end of 2024.

Richard, a chaplain at a correctional institution in Tiptonville, Tennessee, recently shared how God is using Ligonier’s discipleship materials among the men he serves:

“Inmates now attest to the fact that they are men with meaning and purpose, with a new perspective based on truth and substance. Most of this can be attributed to the resources made available to us through Ligonier.”

By God’s grace, your generous support can help incarcerated men and women have increased access to sound, biblical teaching. Thank you for helping reach inmates with the mind-renewing, life-transforming truth of Christ.
