What advice do you have for interpreting Scripture correctly?
It is critical to read the Scripture in context. If I was to give only one piece of advice, that would be it. Christians run amok when they lift a verse out of context and absolutize it, which is why it is critical to return constantly to the context of Scripture.
It’s important to read chapters at a time, if possible, in order to see the context of a verse in both the chapter and the book. It’s important to read a passage, reread it, meditate on it, reflect on it, and ask yourself, “How does this passage relate to what surrounds it?” This is necessary because you won’t understand it correctly unless you see where it comes from, where it’s going, and how the author was using it.
