Christian, Jesus Is Praying for You

Our closest friends may forget to pray for us, but Jesus never will. Today, R.C. Sproul encourages us to take consolation in knowing that our Redeemer “always lives to make intercession” for His people (Heb. 7:25).

We take great comfort in the intercessory prayer of a friend or of a pastor. Have you ever had people ask you, “Pray for me,” and you say, “Sure, I’ll pray for you,” and then you forget? I know that in my lifetime I have told people that I would pray for them and I forget. This last Sabbath morning, I saw a man before I went to church. And the man was not going to church and he said to me, “R.C., pray for me.” And I said, “I will.” I went to the church, got involved in the church service, never entered my mind to pray for him.

I came back to the store where he was after church. Got out of my car. I’m walking across the parking lot and I thought, “Oh, I told Sammy I’d pray for him this morning and I didn’t.” So I stopped right there in the parking lot and I prayed for the guy. But I’m not sure that I was motivated out of sincere godliness. It was out of a sense of guilt that I had failed to keep my promise and at the last minute, so that if he asked me, “Did you pray for me?” I could say, “Yes, I prayed for you.”

You don’t have to worry about that with the intercession of Christ. He doesn’t have to be reminded. He doesn’t make promises that He doesn’t keep. He prays for you every day.
