Announcing Our Tamil Dedicated-Language Website
By the grace of God, Ligonier has launched its online outreach in the Tamil language.
Thanks to the financial generosity of ministry supporters like you, ta.Ligonier.org is our eighteenth dedicated-language website, making biblical teaching and Reformed discipleship resources available to the 86 million people who speak this language worldwide. Ligonier has also launched Tamil Facebook and Instagram pages to increase the reach of faithful Christian teaching online.
Tamil is the official language of the Tamil Nadu state in India and is a national language of Sri Lanka and Singapore. Large numbers of people also speak this language in Malaysia and the Middle East, making Tamil the twentieth most-spoken language in the world.
Today, Christians make up only about 7 percent of the population of India. Persecution there is rapidly increasing, especially against Christians who have converted from a Hindu background. This growing antagonism is often incited by government policy or local officials. Similar patterns of persecution occur in the Buddhist nation of Sri Lanka. Amid such opposition, Ligonier seeks to equip Tamil-speaking Christians with reliable teaching to help them stand fast in the faith and boldly proclaim the gospel.
Contributing to our aim of developing the world’s most extensive library of discipleship resources that are true to the historic Christian faith, our dedicated Tamil website now offers a growing online collection of trusted Bible teaching. In addition to freshly translated articles from Dr. R.C. Sproul and several other theologians, the website features the Ligonier Statement on Christology and historic Christian creeds to help lay a solid doctrinal foundation for the church.
Missionaries have been taking the gospel to India for centuries. And in the twentieth century, Amy Carmichael served as a missionary for 50 years at Dohnavur in Tamil Nadu. Yet the need for Reformed Christian teaching in Tamil only continues to rise. This outreach from Ligonier relies on the prayers and financial gifts of generous donors such as you. Thank you for your steadfast support. Please continue praying for the spread of the gospel among Tamil-speaking people worldwide and for the Lord to strengthen His church in the truth.
